Travessia

How was your day?

This Sunday I've heard a mp3 file, that lasted 3 hours and 40 min, talking about how leading tribes (by Seth Godin), tribes? According to yourdictionary.com tribe is: "any group of people having the same occupation, habits, ideas, etc.: often in a somewhat derogatory sense the tribe of drama critics". So why lead them? I think this is a very good new concept and every single marketer should at least listen to this mp3 file. I see as the evolution of the segmentation, now you do not target a segment but you lead a tribe. At the segmentation we use to have brand management, which was so top down, profitable oriented. Managing tribe is totally different, you start with permission.
People need to belong to a tribe, share the same interesting and what they really want is to connect to people and not to companies. So the company's goal is to help people to connect each other.
There are a lot of people wanting to connect to each other, demanding something remarkeble, wanting to spend their money on something the believe in, they just need a leader to follow. You can be a leader, how? First of all you must have a new idea, otherwise you will be only a follower. Than you really must to believe in this idea, and you must feel the necessity to leader people to connect through this idea. But if you do not feel it you'd better not try to lead.
Now you have the idea and really want to lead you have to make a movement, which consists of a story, a connection between the tribe and leader, and something to be done.
You must to 5 things to make a movement:
•Publish a manifesto;
•Easy to followers to connect to you;
•Easy to connect to one and another;
•Money is not the point of a movement;
•Track your progress

And follow these 6 principles:

•Transparency
•The movement is bigger than you
•Movements will grow, get better, improve.
•Compared to other movements that did well and join to similar movements.
•Exclude outsiders
•Tearing others down is not worth

Once you have done it people will start to talk about you and some will became your fan. And a fan will amplify your idea. Every tribe is a media channel, but they are not for sale.
Now is your (and mine) time to lead, you must innovate, make change, not follow the rules.
Changes never failed because it's to early, but always because it is to late. And in the end to track you leadership you must to ask every single day, "How was my day?" if the answer is ok or medium, you are in the wrong way, but if it is awesome you are in the right way.

Lets start!

Cooking as Therapy

I wasn't much interested in cooking until I started to plan to live abroad. At home I used to have good food every day with out doing nothing and for free... hehehehe. As I am very fussy about my food here in New Zealand I have to cook my own food, or eat at Mc Donald's. I cant stand Cup Noodles or thing like that. So I started too do my best cooking, and I realized that it became a very good moment in my day, I really enjoy cooking, I get into the flow! Cooking is a change of pace, a change of venue, and a change of mind. There is something magical about the process of transforming raw, solitary ingredients into a savory amalgamation of flavor, smell, taste, texture, and color.

Now I want to cook better and better. And I am interested learn about every king of food, dessert or drink that are very good. I want to eat good stuff! My nest challenge is to learn how to make the best gelato in the world!

Sustainability a Consumer call

According to Wikipedia sustainability is: "in a general sense, is the capacity to maintain a certain process or state indefinitely." I would say that sustainability is just think that the resources are scanty and we need to plan how to you them in a way that we can make a better place for our kids and grand kids’ to live. So you can apply this concept in every thing that you do.

Recently the sustainability term became very fashionable. Although it is one of the most spoken words in the cooperative "world", we can see few companies really doing some thing, most of the companies just communicate them selves as sustainable to have a good image to consumers. But why does it happen, if the need of sustainability is already well known by the executives? According to Francisco Gracioso in his book Marketing Estrategico (Strategic Marketing) the time average that a CEO works in the same company is 5 years. And they feel pressured by shareholders to deliver results and not promises. So the most wanted ceo's are the ones that make the price of the company's stock go up next week, in other words they focus their efforts to plan in the short term over the long term. But the share holders have not seen yet that sustainability is the only way to obtain profits in the long term, otherwise there won't be no resources any more to keep their business. So this link between sustainability and profit must be displayed as a profitable strategy. And also it can be used to communicate a good image to consumers.

If they are taking some time to realized that what could us, the consumer, do? Every thing! We live in a cosumism time. People buy just for the pleasure of buying, even if they do not need it. But in my opinion we should consume more conscientiously. If most companies are profit oriented, and they make profit selling goods for us, we should start to buy only the sustainable choice. So if you want to buy a cookies pack, and you have two choices: one with regular packaging, and other with recycling packaging you should choose the second one.

It is up to us make this change! Lets make this planet a better place.

Family

According to the Wikipedia "Family denotes a group of people affiliated by consanguinity, affinity, or co-residence." is it good? I think it dependence on each one experience.
A week ago I was talking with Gianpaolo (my new boss) about luck, does it exists? I don't think so, luck is you be ready, prepared to catch an opportunity when it appears. If you are not ready, and you don't do anything to help your self, you will pass your whole life regretting that you were not able to make your dreams became true.
But think about your family, you did not have choice, you was born and your father, mother, uncle, aunt, maybe brother, maybe sister, they were all there already! So in this case I think that luck exists.
You can be born in a big family, in a small one, in a healthy family or in a family with many health problems, in a rich one or in a very poor, in a liberal one or in a very conservative. But in the end it doesn't matter because the most important thing in a family is love, do you know why? The reason is that with love you will always do things to proportionate the best to the family, some times we commit mistakes, we are humans, but the most important is that we commit them trying to do the right thing.
I am very lucky because I have a family that always tried to proportionate the best for me! My pillars are my father and my mother that taught me every thing, mainly my values. They developed in me the ability to discern what is right and what is wrong. The gave me the opportunity to study, to travel abroad, etc. They provided me a home, the most secure place in the world. And I am grateful for every thing!!!
I am more lucky because I have a whole family, including grandmothers, grandfather, uncle, aunt, brother and sisters that love me, and I love them. I also have a step mother, even not being consanguinity as in the Wikipedia definition (what makes me even more lucky), that loves me.
If luck doesn't even exists, isn't it enough luck for me? Yes, but even tough I could find a very especial girl, Gabriela! And if family is all about love, and care about the family member trying to proportionate the best for them, she is in my family!

What a LUCKY guy!

Thanks my family!

Personal Marketing

Why would I have a blog? I do not know how wright well and I do not have any thing interesting to wright. So why? But last week I was talking to an Italian guy, in a job interview, when he asked me: “Do you have a blog?”, I said that I didn't have and I was wondering why did he asked it to me. He explained that it is a very good opportunity to show every one who you are. In other words is a very good media to communicate my safe to the whole world. So I decided to try!

I have a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, and some job experience in the marketing area. I was always thinking how would I innovate to communicate a company's brand, and which would be the perfect marketing mix to determinate product. What about the most important brand? My self is the most important brand! And I didn't even have marketing plan for me.

I have already started to formulate the plan:
-Short Term objectives: Finish my Business Course (that I have already started), Bring my girlfriend from Brazil to New Zealand, get a MBA scholarship at Auckland University and Learn the most I can about food retail.
-Long Term objectives: ave my own business (What? I don't know yet, but I will keep looking for a market opportunity).
-Marketing Mix:
Product: My knowledge. So I have to keep studying and searching for a job opportunity where I can learn a lot.
Place: New Zealand and Brazil.
Promotion: Find new ways to communicate my self such as Face Book, Blog, Orkut, so on.
Price: No is not the time to make a lot of money, but it is to learn.

So I can position my self as a young professional with Knowledge and experience. I am branding my self.

And in this blog I will wright about me, about the things that like: Music, Movies, Sports, Marketing, Business Opportunities, New Zealand, Brazil, My Girlfriend Gabi and Books.

So here you can know a lot about me.

Cheers!
